My first Montana trip was very exciting to me. My father in law grew up in Montana on a dairy farm. He learned a very strong work ethic having to wake up early to take care of the cows. I was interested in seeing where he grew up and also see where my husband has spent a lot of time on vacations. We also got to visit Matt’s grandmother.
Our trip was over the fourth of July. We did fireworks at Matt’s grandmother’s home and some of the fireworks landed on her roof. Luckily they slid down and no fire was started. My husband loves fireworks. We also saw a small town parade and rodeo which was fun. The ice cream shop has Matt’s Grandmother’s favorite flavor over the fourth of July (Licorice). I tried it and definitely think it’s an acquired taste but fun to eat black ice cream.
I learned that the Going-To The Sun Road at Glacier National Park is generally not open until July. It’s always hard to imagine a place is so cold when it’s so beautiful outside. We did the Trail of the Cedars and Avalanche Lake Trail. They were both so pretty. The highlight for me was when we were driving we saw two Moose (I assume one of was a baby/kid moose). That was so neat.
We also crossed the border and went to Waterton National Park. Wow– that is a gorgeous national park and fun to go to a different country. I’m glad Matt’s grandmother lives here so we have an excuse to visit. I can’t wait till we go back.
